What illusion of depth can be created in a painting by making parallel lines called orthogonals
Orthogonals can be used to create the parallel lines that lead to the 'vanishing point'. This helps us and they can be used as sort of guid lines for placing our characters, buildings, plants, trees, etc. This assists in the creation of depth, perspective and flow of a painting or drawing. It gives us a sense of a '3D image' rather than a flat one.
